Kathina Ceremony Buddhist Maha Vihara 2010

Finally I get to do some volunteer work at Buddhist Maha Vihara after being super busy for the last few months.

I was at the BMV this morning to help cover the photography for the Kathina Ceremony where devotees give offerings to the Buddhist monks. It was amazing to so many people turned up during the ceremony and it was a pleasure covering the event and to be able to capture the moments of this auspicious and meritious occasion.

Buddhist Maha Vihara Wesak Cultural Night 2010

Recently I took some time off to volunteer for the photography coverage for the Wesak Cultural Night 2010. It really feels good to be able to contribute to the society.

According to Buddhist Maha Vihara:- “Wesak is celebrated by a huge population in Asia. This cultural night features Cultural Dances from various Asian communities such as Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Nepalese, Thai, Burmese, and Sri Lankan where Buddhism played an inspiring role in the development of their cultural and civilizations.”

Bak Maha Ulela, Brickfields- Sinhala/Tamil New Year

Bak Maha Ulela – a traditional Sinhala/Tamil New Year is an annual event celebrated to stimulates society, enlivens he nation and fosters national consciousness in Sri Lanka. This event is celebrated by the Sri Lankan community in Kuala Lumpur with a lot joy, celebrations and sporting events. I was given the honor to cover the event as a volunteer. Many games and sporting events were held to foster unity and happiness amongst the community.

Chap Goh Meh Celebrations at Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields

Chap Goh Meh represents the 15th and the final day of the Lunar New Year period celebrated by all Chinese around the world. The term is from the Hokkien dialect and refers to the fifteenth day of the first month, which is the first full moon of the New Year.

This year, in Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple, the occasion was started with prayers, then followed by procession that starts from the temple to around Brickfields area and back. Buddhist devotees with candles in the hand join in the walk around the area accompanied by the lion dance, floral car and choir.
